WEBSITE REDESIGN

Highlighting the most pressing issues and disasters

The Center for Disaster Philanthropy’s website was in a need of a complete reorganization and redesign in order to engender more thoughtful giving decisions and maximize the impact of every dollar donated.

A modular homepage system allows CDP to feature the most relevant articles and pages on a day to day basis.

Because the old site had outgrown its original navigation structure, we took it down to the studs. Then from information architecture to overall design, we rebuilt it. We introduced intuition to information-finding, elevated content management with cutting-edge functionality, CRM integration, and increased user engagement through vivid design.

Well-organized indices of current and past disasters and easily accessible donate pages take the user seamlessly from information to action.

We conceived Disaster Mode, a temporary homepage that shines a light on an ongoing disaster. When disaster strikes, the homepage transforms into a repository of focused articles and information about that disaster in order to heighten awareness and funnel giving interest towards it.

THE DISASTER PHILANTHROPY PLAYBOOK

Helping communities everywhere prepare for and respond to disaster

We designed and built the online Disaster Philanthropy Playbook with clarity and simplicity as our main priorities. A series of innovative tools make it easy for any user to find, organize, and activate the most relevant information for their communities – even in an emergency.

The Playbook tells the story of disaster response and recovery through practical strategies.

The Playbook tells the story of disaster response and recovery through practical strategies.

The helpful user experience begins with “How to Use the Playbook,” in which a series of instructional popups explain site features and guide users through the creation of a customized “My Playbook” that can serve as a ready-made resource for their communities.

An instructional guide gets new users up to speed quickly.

We organized content intuitively around issues such as Housing, Communication Networks, and Education. Since disasters require teamwork, we included a section on collaboration. And to educate and inspire, we provided a series of grantmakers’ true impact stories.

When disaster does strike, “Playbook Now” appears automatically and provides links to a curated page with articles and resources so people rushing to react have quick access to crucial information.

Tooltips explain terms, acronyms, and organizations that may be new to users.
